"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure," the passage reads. God is an anchor in our lives, so grounded within us that He provides a security in which we can find hope.
Most of the time, I find myself reciting Hebrews 6:19 when something stressful has happened in school, in relationships with people, or when things just aren't going right in general. It is the passage I quote when my day is rocky and doesn't go according to plan. In the hard times, hard times, hard times. However, as I have been learning so much about life and my faith the past several weeks, I have realized that this verse is such an encouragement in the peaceful times as well.
There are so many times that Christians tend to lean on God and His Word when life isn't going their way and put the Bible on the back burner when it is- I know I'm guilty of this. We pull our Bible off the shelf for encouragement but put it back when things start to look up. The Bible is meant for SO much more than that, like literally SO much more. It's meant for SO much more than that that I can't even express it into words. The Bible is God-breathed and inspired; He didn't just mean for it to be used by us in the hard times, but in the happy and best of times too.
Personally, in this time of growth, I have been learning to lean on the Bible more in every situation, both the good. . . and the not so good. Hebrews 6:19 has been such a beacon of hope for me, but it has been even more encouraging to lean upon when I am at peace with the place I am at in this season of life. God is a constant stronghold in the lives of all His children; He never waivers, and He never fails. In the rockiest of storms to the calmest of seas, God's anchor on us will never give away its hold. Isn't that encouraging in all the moments of our lives? Knowing that God is our anchor is such a reassurance that He is faithful all of the time- when we run to Him with open arms and strive to build a deeper relationship with our Heavenly Father, and even when we want to be independent from Him, get angry at Him, and choose to turn our backs on Him. God is a mountain that will never move. Ever.
Friends, I greatly encourage you to lean upon the Bible and its wisdom in every situation and season in which God will place you during your temporary time on earth. I know it is so easy for us to recite verses and read God's Word when something bad or stressful has happened, and I am not telling you to stop doing that. You should be meditating on God's word in times of struggle! But, don't forget to rely upon those same verse and passages even when life is going your way. God is greater than both the highs and lows; rely on His wisdom in the highs of life, not just the lows. I used a picture of my siblings and I jumping in the air with smiles on our faces as the thumbnail photo of this post because that is how the Bible should make us feel while reading and reflecting upon it- overjoyed and overwhelmed by the hope and wisdom it can give us if we choose to open our eyes to it. Learning to read the Bible more often is something I am still working on, and I am trying to make a habit out of it- but not just make it something I do because I'm used to it or am going through the motions, but because I genuinely want and love to open my Bible and dive into God's Word on a consistent basis. It's definitely hard, I know, especially during our busy seasons of life, but God deserves our time. Give it to Him. The stuff you will learn from spending time in His Word will be infinitely worth it.
