Is There No Rest for the Weary?

PictureIsaiah 40:29-31 (ESV) says, "He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

Wow, those are some powerful words! They have meaning to me personally, and I hope they do for you too. For so many of us, our lives are constantly full of busy activities from school, to homework, to sports, to jobs, to friends and family, to just wanting to enjoy life. More often than not, my day to day life just feels like a cycle: wake up, exist, go to sleep. Over and over and over and over and over again. Did I mention over and over again? Exactly. A continuous cycle that never ends and never changes. Life is tiring, isn't it?

However, there is hope! Oh, sweet friends, there is so much hope. Cliché, I know, but the Bible gives us so many answers to so many problems and questions we have everyday. These three short verses have given me so much hope and joy in the past couple of weeks as I have struggled to stay sane and actually enjoy the life that I have been given. As I have started to dive into God's Word more the past couple of weeks, I have realized just how powerful the words written in it (by God, no less!) are. For weeks, I had constantly been feeling tired, stressed, and weary in every aspect of life. I began to stop feeling motivated to work on school and get ahead of my busy schedule. When I finally remembered this passage and looked it up, I realized that there really is rest and strength in our God Almighty. "He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength," says the Bible. Even when we are at our absolute lowest point, worn out and anxious, God can and will provide rest and strength. Just ask Him! It's hard, I know. Especially when it feels like God hardly hears you sometimes when you pray. But He is HERE for you everywhere you are and no matter what stage or season of life you are in. Trust me! Speaking from my own personal experiences over the past few months, I KNOW that God hears our prayers. He is always looking out for His children, and He always wants to provide the strength and hope to keep going.

Friends, I encourage you to keep going. Always. Keep working hard and don't give up. God is watching out for you in every situation. He wants to provide strength for us like it says in the verses, ". . .but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." Be patient, my friends, hope and joy are coming. Keep looking to the future and be ready for how the Lord is going to provide for you!

In the meantime, take a break sometimes. Take that long needed nap or start that long-awaited book, even if you do have homework or other activities to complete. That nap or reading will rejuvenate and give you the motivation to keep going. One day at a time. You can do it, I know you can!

Possession by Katie Lowe

The past haunts her. The present hunts her. Possession by Katie Lowe is a thrilling story about ghosts, murder, and secrets that need to be let out. Years ago, Hannah's husband, Graham, was murdered. The police thought they put the killer behind bars, but Conviction, a true-crime podcast, wants to challenge the case they made all those years ago because they don't believe the real murderer was caught. The podcast brings up parts of Hannah's past that she would have rather kept buried, and people believe that she is the one who killed her husband. Everyone begins to believe that she is crazy, but Hannah knows that something isn't right. And she is determined to find out what's really going on. I absolutely loved this story! As a thriller and horror fanatic, I enjoyed getting to see a combination of spooky elements throughout the book. The plot was intense and action-packed, and the narrator was a bit unreliable, which I personally believe can make thrillers so much ...

The Stranger on the Bench

She drops her bag next to her on the worn bench and rests her head in her hands. Tears stream down her face as her heart continues to break into pieces. Memories flash through her head: firm hugs on cold nights, forehead kisses to say goodbye, and the best night of her life—when he proposed to her on the beach surrounded by flower petals. Now, he’s gone, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The doctors said the car accident caused internal bleeding. They couldn’t save him in time. When they announced him to be dead, it was as though a part of her had also died. “Excuse me, miss. Are you okay?” a soft voice disrupts from the crushing memories playing in her head. She lifts her head and notices a gentleman sitting beside her on the bench. A cane rests against his leg, and his kind eyes stare at her with concern. She quickly wipes the tears falling down her cheeks and realizes she must look like a wreck. Surely the little bit of mascara she put on today is smeared around her eyes....

Trapped: A Short-Short Story

Rain pounds harshly against the window, waking me from fever dreams. As I roll onto my back and stare at the ceiling, I can’t help but re-live everything I just imagined—my fears chasing me at every turn. I realize I have been crying. Fresh tears rest beneath my eyelashes. I angrily wipe them away. The storm rages outside, and thick tree branches scratch against the wall of my room. The noise hurts my ears, so I pick up a thin pillow, pressing it to my face to quiet the sound. It blocks out nothing, and I groan, realizing that going back to bed will be impossible at this point. My throat feels dry, so I decide to try and sneak through the house to get a glass of water. I get out of bed and slowly turn the door handle. It’s locked. Of course the door is locked. I should have remembered. Every single night for as long as I have lived here, been trapped here, all doors in the house get locked as soon as the clock strikes midnight. There is no escape. If you don’t g...
