Enjoying Life in the Midst of a Crazy Schedule

Hi, friends!

If you're anything like me, life is crazy busy and full of time spent with school, homework, college classes, sports, church, and other extracurricular activities. It's been a struggle learning how to balance a hectic schedule this year because I have been involved with so many activities both in and out of school, but I have grown a lot through this season of my life and would love to share some tips with y'all! Specifically, I am going to focus on my school life and how to juggle hard classes while still trying to find time to relax :)

1. Study with friends.

One of my favorite things about school is getting the opportunity to be with my friends for seven hours Monday-Friday (and sometimes even on weekends haha). I have every class with a few different groups of friends, so we oftentimes have lots of the same homework and have to deal with same stress levels. . . hehe. If you and your friends have the same class schedule and homework loads, why not get together and study!? There are so many great places to meet up, and some of my favorites include Winans, Starbucks, and Panera Bread. If going out isn't an option for you for one reason or another, go to a friend's house, make some snacks, and get to work on projects and other homework! Friends make school so much better, so studying with friends one evening a week should make tiring homework a bit more enjoyable!

2. Don't be afraid to take breaks!

Almost every single day after school, I come home with a full page of "To-Do's," thanks to high school and college classes. From 3:30-10 PM, my schedule basically just consists of homework, homework, and MORE homework (it's fine lol) when I am not at sports or other activities. One thing that I have found helpful in my studies this year (though it doesn't fit my personality haha) is taking breaks every once in a while. The way I am wired, I cannot be relaxed until every single piece of homework is complete; however, due to the work load I have this year, taking breaks is something I HAVE HAD to do, or else I would lose my mind. Every time I check off an item of homework on my checklist, marking that I have completed it, I take a break and relax. During my breaks, I will generally read a couple chapters of a book I am currently reading or watch an episode of The Office, Friends, PLL, NCIS, or other Netflix favorites. I have found that even though my homework isn't always completed until around ten o'clock every night, I can feel more motivated to keep going with homework when I have time scheduled for a few breaks every evening.

3. Treat yo'self (you deserve it)!

Finally, one more way I have stayed focused and committed to finishing out the school year strong has been rewarding myself with a small treat sometimes. For my birthday back in December, I got TONNNSSSS of individually wrapped candies and chocolates. I still have not been able to eat everything, and so one thing I have gotten into the habit of doing is rewarding myself with a small piece of chocolate or candy every few hours when I am feeling stressed and anxious. People who know me personally know that I LOVE my chocolate, so when I divulge in a piece of wonderful chocolate every few hours, my spirits are lifted as I continue to work through homework.

I really hope these suggestions will help you as you continue through the school year! Feel free to comment on the website or message me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook and tell me what YOU want to see me write about! I would love any suggestions! Please enjoy! :)

Possession by Katie Lowe

The past haunts her. The present hunts her. Possession by Katie Lowe is a thrilling story about ghosts, murder, and secrets that need to be let out. Years ago, Hannah's husband, Graham, was murdered. The police thought they put the killer behind bars, but Conviction, a true-crime podcast, wants to challenge the case they made all those years ago because they don't believe the real murderer was caught. The podcast brings up parts of Hannah's past that she would have rather kept buried, and people believe that she is the one who killed her husband. Everyone begins to believe that she is crazy, but Hannah knows that something isn't right. And she is determined to find out what's really going on. I absolutely loved this story! As a thriller and horror fanatic, I enjoyed getting to see a combination of spooky elements throughout the book. The plot was intense and action-packed, and the narrator was a bit unreliable, which I personally believe can make thrillers so much ...

The Stranger on the Bench

She drops her bag next to her on the worn bench and rests her head in her hands. Tears stream down her face as her heart continues to break into pieces. Memories flash through her head: firm hugs on cold nights, forehead kisses to say goodbye, and the best night of her life—when he proposed to her on the beach surrounded by flower petals. Now, he’s gone, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The doctors said the car accident caused internal bleeding. They couldn’t save him in time. When they announced him to be dead, it was as though a part of her had also died. “Excuse me, miss. Are you okay?” a soft voice disrupts from the crushing memories playing in her head. She lifts her head and notices a gentleman sitting beside her on the bench. A cane rests against his leg, and his kind eyes stare at her with concern. She quickly wipes the tears falling down her cheeks and realizes she must look like a wreck. Surely the little bit of mascara she put on today is smeared around her eyes....

Trapped: A Short-Short Story

Rain pounds harshly against the window, waking me from fever dreams. As I roll onto my back and stare at the ceiling, I can’t help but re-live everything I just imagined—my fears chasing me at every turn. I realize I have been crying. Fresh tears rest beneath my eyelashes. I angrily wipe them away. The storm rages outside, and thick tree branches scratch against the wall of my room. The noise hurts my ears, so I pick up a thin pillow, pressing it to my face to quiet the sound. It blocks out nothing, and I groan, realizing that going back to bed will be impossible at this point. My throat feels dry, so I decide to try and sneak through the house to get a glass of water. I get out of bed and slowly turn the door handle. It’s locked. Of course the door is locked. I should have remembered. Every single night for as long as I have lived here, been trapped here, all doors in the house get locked as soon as the clock strikes midnight. There is no escape. If you don’t g...
